MONCLER
by Willow Smith
The Moncler x Willow Smith collaboration combines futuristic design with functionality, riffing off Willow’s personal style and pioneering vision. The collection debuted in a post-apocalyptic garden setting at Shanghai's City of Genius event last month, embodying an exploration of balance between minimalism and utilitarianism as well as femininity and masculinity.
Smith’s imagined landscape features monochromatic, quilted jackets and pants that are accentuated with dramatic silhouettes, evoking the sort of otherworldly outerwear one might find within the pages of a dystopian book. The multi-hyphenate also reimagined Moncler’s signatures, creating a logo and monogram distinguishing the collaboration from other Moncler designs. Inverted W’s paired with the Moncler M are integrated throughout the collection along with silver ring motifs and circular accents that mirror Smith’s trademark piercings.
Smith’s penchant for bringing seemingly contradictory ideas together in fashion is manifested most clearly in the Moncler x Willow Smith down jacket dress. A puffy, sleeping bag-like shell is transformed into a lighter garment through its detachable hem. Canvas trousers become shorter and sleeker with the pull of a zipper. Clothing made of soft knits and sturdy shells are contrasted by cutouts and fitted silhouettes, adding a striking element to ready-to-wear stapes.
